pagdihon year 2
the festival spree is on. dingle sleeps late what with the different beats and megaphoned creams and curses of trainers from the different competing groups for the PAGDIHON Year 2 streetdancing contest.
imagine barangay pandan, abangay, tanghawan and sinibaan district, last year's champion, crave for another crown; while the other districts toil and push limits of their boundaries to get the most coveted crown...
what remains to be seen is the queued events to happen... another spectacular night in fact a magical night.
i'll keep you posted as soon as i get the final list of activities

tagum city
the biggest city hall in the country... the biggest image of resurrected Christ... the Music Capital of Mindanao... that's Tagum City in Davao.
I was there for the NSPC 2010 and was amazed of these things. Where else can you find a grade school pupil blowing flutes and trumpets? Only in Tagum sao far.
But one thing that struck me is WHY BUILD THE BIGGEST CITY HALL?

this is the atrium of the city hall. it can accommodate more than 5 thousand guests.
again the question is why build such a huge building? the answer came from my former colleague. Tagum has no eco-tourism. that is why they conceptualized the MUSIKAHAN festival, a year-round activity which highlights on February. SO, to stage the talent of the people, they need an arena for such staging of talents.
Imagine, next year 2011, they will host the 1st International Rondalla Competition. In fact according to Sam, my friend, 23 countries have all ready signed and confirmed their entries.
in this case then, tourists are drawn to the city. The next question is, WIll tourism targets compensate for the millions of pesos spent to build such a huge city hall?
remember, tagum city is not at all dependent on its IRA. It is self-producing and self-generating city. It has its own motorpool which produces plastic chairs and many others. they produce and sell. they sustain their own economy.
the challenge that Tagum poses is WHEN WE PLAN FOR DEVELOPMENT, WE MUST THINK BIG. Surely, Dingle is not that far behind. We have the best talents in town. We can think big. Let's not get used to what has been. they have been proven ineffective.
Just take a look at that SPACE-SHIP stage in the plaza. Has anyone thought of something BIG before it mushroomed there? If Pagdihon festival would be legislated, that open stage will not suffice the increasing demand for more space for our guests, let alone judges.
well, it's up to you to determine the implications of this statement. in the mean time, as election approaches, let us think big and reflect what's best for our town. after all we have all ready experienced both regimes...

nspc 2010
yehey... i'm off to tagum city, davao for the 2010 nationa schools press conference.
and you know what, it's been a hard week seeking financial aid from people. luckily today i was able to raise 23,500 pesos and thanks to all who contributed. pero in fairness, we still need some amount. the budget is 32,500. at least gamay nalang ah. eheheh
anyway, i was chosen to be one of the 17 most outstanding school paper advisers of the philippines. and now i'm off my neck looking for a perfect wear. the memo from deped central office says it should be a regional attire... what the heck. should i wear bahag with feather designs? or wear something with a maskara? whatever...

hello
its new year again. 2010. wow. election time.
surely all the spoofs on tv about flooding the entire country will come true. it's money-flooding what with vote buying and flagrant blackmailing.
now, it's a passe. vote buying is normal. agreed? hope not. that is ironic of the 21st century. when someone discards what has been considered sin one gets the condemnation of all.
nevertheless, in 2007, to be honest i received 200 bucks from the then candidate. the camp told me it wasn't buying, it was giving an allowance to us LOWLY voters who have to travel and spend in order to vote. EEEEWWWW. as in. my house is like duh... i only have to adjust my mouth to southwest direction spit it and there the saliva goes straight to the polling precinct. but then... hehehehe... i accepted the money. hahahaha. now, was that vote buying? or have i allowed myself to be bought?
